INTRODUCTION

'Energy blockage,' in particular a specific kind of 'energy blockage' - 'emotional energy blockage' - are extremely important in understanding and maintaining 'good health' - and avoiding 'sickness,' 'illness' and 'disease.'

At the heart of understanding the idea and reality of 'energy blockage,' is the 'subtle energetic system' - which operates within the human body.  This 'subtle energetic system,' which is now increasingly being recognised by western medicine, was well known to ancient traditions and cultures.  We find perhaps, the clearest expression of this system in the term used in Indian culture, known as the 'chakra system.'  We also see a similar expression of this concept in Chinese medical understanding and practice - when they refer to the 'Meridian system' within the human body.

Whilst there may be differences in the understanding and practice by the various cultures of these 'subtle energetic systems' - the essence of these systems is that they are regarded as carrying 'vital energy' to all parts of the body.  Like air and nutrients in the blood this 'vital force' is carried throughout the body and without it the - physical aspect of the human body would cease to function properly or at all - so one becomes sick when it is not functioning properly (i.e. blocked) - and one is dead - when it is gone completely.

Indeed, the understanding of the importance of this 'vital force' - 'vital energy,' is such that in the medical understanding of these cultures, this 'vital Life Force' is regarded as being of more significance than the 'material nutrients' - such as food and even air etc... when it comes to considering the 'sources' of sickness and illness.  Many cultures give this 'vital Life Force' a name, for example, 'prana' (India,) 'chi' (China,) 'mana' (Indigenous peoples.)

We are concerned with this 'vital energy' - in its 'modern aspects' - and we find it appearing in its modern aspect - in the treatment of sickness and illness - in the term 'energy blockage.'  This is why a proper understanding of this 'Life Force energy' - the 'subtle energy system' - and 'energy blockages' themselves are so important.
