Taking Care Of Your Mental Space / Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing can be defined as being in a healthy and balanced mental state – which incorporates 'psychological,' 'emotional' and 'spiritual' aspects.  The condition of your 'mental space' has a profound effect on the quality of your life and your experience of it.  When your thoughts are cluttered and unclear it can bring about much chaos and confusion that will be evident in your life – clear and ordered thoughts will ensure mental health and wellbeing.

Developing good habits and practices is all it takes to ensure mental wellbeing.  There are many things you can do to take control of your mental space / wellbeing – great ‘Power’ can be found in ‘preparedness.’

Here are some practical tips to help you take control of your mental space / well-being:

1. On waking - How you wake up in the morning can have a significant effect on the type of day that you have and how you progress throughout the day.  For example when you wake up in a ‘good’ mood – it is more likely you will have positive day – it is all a matter of perception.

It is important to remember - whatever mood you wake up in, you have the ‘Power’ to affect your day in a positive way.  Therefore, rather than getting straight out of bed in the morning – spend some time lying still – thinking about the type of day you would like to have – try not to get caught up on the details – rather just pinpoint the aspects / qualities you would like to invite into your day i.e. ‘productivity,’ ‘optimism,’ ‘joy,’ ‘success’ etc…

2. Meditation can be a great way to ‘cleanse’ and ‘purify’ your ‘mental space’ and should be incorporated into your routine as a daily practice.  Just 10 minutes of meditation in the morning can have a profound effect on your energy, mood and general wellbeing – the following is a link to the ‘ISIS (I Sit In Silence) Meditation’ technique/practice – all it takes is 10 minutes – to access - click here.

3. Positive Thinking & Affirmations – Adopting a positive outlook to life can have a significant effect on your ‘mental space’ / wellbeing – ‘all power is rooted in perception.’  Thus, it is important to practice thinking positively – how can you do this?  The first step is to observe your thoughts – get an idea of the way that you think – what do you observe about the reactions in your mind to certain situations, people, environments? – Simply notice them – acknowledge them.  This process is known as ‘self reflection’ / ‘introspection.’

Positive affirmations are a practical way take control of your mental space / mental wellbeing – repeating positive affirmations either out loud through speech or in your head can help to reprogram your thinking and can reinforce your free will and power to positively effect your life.  Here is an example of a positive affirmation - ‘I am safe, secure & happy.”

4. 'Self Reflection' & 'Introspection' are extremely helpful practices, which will prove useful in your ‘personal development.’  There is a well-known saying in philosophy - ‘know thyself and ye shall know all things.’  It is important to remember - you cannot change what you are unaware of or ignorant to – ‘self reflection’ and ‘introspection’ invites you to take control of your ‘mental space’ / wellbeing – ‘you can seize back your power – through your Knowing!’

5. Individual Power’ - Finally, remember to exercise your ’Individual Power’ where ever and whenever possible.   Although there are many aspects of life that we have very little control i.e. events, circumstances etc... – there are many aspects of life that we do have control over.  Often, you cannot control what happens, but you have absolute control how you respond/react i.e. your emotions.

Note:- using your ‘Individual Power’ does not mean bullying / throwing your weight around – the energy of ‘Power’ flows more freely through the following – ‘magnanimity’ and ‘compassion.’

To conclude:

“Today I escaped anxiety.  Or no, I discarded it, because it was within me, in my own perceptions – not outside.”
