DEFINITION OF THE MIND

The 'Mind' is central to this 'Self Heal,' system - and so it is necessary that we define and clearly understand what we mean by the term the 'human mind,' 'how it works' and its relation to the 'Greater Mind' - 'Intelligence.'

If we accept the notion of some 'Universal Principle' (however we style it - 'God,' 'Absolute,' 'All,' 'Allah,' 'Father,' 'Mother') - we will readily see, that given the myriad of possible names - the label, given should not affect its 'particular nature,' and 'substance.'

But a name being a label is not unimportant.  It enables us to set the context for that which we are considering - and so it is helpful to be able to use a 'name,' as a 'label' in this way.

Of course with usage and the passage of time certain names/labels, will develop their own 'nuances,' and may even become 'rigid' and 'fixed' and maybe even become a source for unnecessary division and conflict.  The term 'God' is a case in point.

The use of the term 'Mind,' has a number of advantages, whilst it is clear that we we dealing with a 'Universal Principle,' it does not evoke the unfortunate emotive connotations associated with terms like 'God,' and 'Spirit,' - It is more 'abstract' - than the term 'Life Force' and the 'Mind,' although we all accept that it cannot be seen, it can be used in everyday language - in a way that is not contentious, but understandable and yet sufficiently 'ineffable' to distinguish it from the  'ordinariness' of the 'purely physical.'

Expressed with a capital - as in 'Mind'- we are referring to it as a 'Universal Principle.'  Expressed in small case - as in 'mind' - we refer to the 'mind' as found and as used by the individual.

We shall not attempt to engage in an academic discussion about - what is 'Mind' - as tempting as that might seem - we shy away from that course - since that is not the purpose of this work and could even detract from its necessary focus which is to strive to be as simple and as practical as possible.

We therefore invite the reader to use their own 'understanding'  of what is meant by 'mind.'  I am sure that we are all capable of such a definition - that is all that is necessary and sufficient to enable this work to be approached and usefully used.

As a guide however, we offer/suggest the following characteristics of 'mind,' which the reader may find helpful.

Mind is a 'counterpart' to that which is 'manifest' physically.  It shares that essence with 'Spirit.'  It is the 'home' of the 'idea,' - it shares that essence with , 'Intelligence.'  It is 'ubiquitous'/everywhere - it shares that essence with the 'Universal' - It is a 'Power,' which can be 'exercised' both 'Universally' and by or through an 'individual' - it shares that essence - with the 'Presence' of God/ Goddess.
